10 Fool-Proof Tactics to Eliminate Condensation

22nd Dec 2023

Condensation can lead to a whole host of problems. Damp walls, decaying floors, peeling paint, mould growth, stains. Not to mention cracked rendering and pipe problems.

Prevent condensation so you don’t have to cure it. Here are 10 fool-proof tactics to eliminate condensation.

TACTIC 1: Use a Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers become the coldest part of the house, drawing in moisture-filled air. They remove the moisture from the air and store it in a water collection tank which can then be emptied.

A dehumidifier is the single most helpful product to eliminate condensation.

TACTIC 2: Choose Ebac’s Smart Control

Manual control systems require constant adjustment for them to continue working effectively. To save you time and money, Ebac developed the Smart Control system. This automatic system takes moisture and Relative Humidity readings and alters the dehumidifier’s functioning.

When days are drier and there’s less moisture in the air, the dehumidifier will just turn itself off.

TACTIC 3: Keep Lids on Saucepans

Condensation frequently manifests from steam produced when cooking. This quickly finds a home in cold areas and penetrates the surfaces, causing damp and mould. Cooking with lids on saucepans prevents water vapour from entering the air and turning into condensation.

TACTIC 4: Turn Your Kitchen Extractor Fan on

Turn the kitchen extractor fan on to remove any of the steam that still manages to escape the saucepans. Extractor fans suck up the moisture and release it outside.

TACTIC 5: Turn Your Bathroom Extractor Fan on

Showering is also a significant producer of condensation. When you open the bathroom door, the steam escapes into the rest of your home and finds the cold spots. To prevent this, turn your bathroom extractor fan on.

TACTIC 6: Airdry Laundry in One Room

The water that evaporates when laundry dries quickly turns into condensation. To reduce the damage, isolate your airdrying to just one room. Then place your dehumidifier in that room, and it’ll remove all that harmful moisture.

TACTIC 7: Keep Doors Open Slightly

Closed doors reduce air circulation. When a dehumidifier is working, it relies on air circulation to draw the moist air towards it. Keeping your doors ajar will allow the dehumidifier to remove all the moisture, not just the moisture from one room.

TACTIC 8: Check Your Insulation

Well-insulated homes are less prone to condensation problems because they don’t let the cold winter air in. Checking your insulation won’t just keep you warm; it’ll keep your home condensation-free, too.

TACTIC 9: Keep Your House Toasty Warm

If there aren’t any cold spots in your home, moisture-filled air will travel back outside where it belongs. Ensuring your heating system is in tip-top shape prevents condensation build-up.

TACTIC 10: Ventilate Your Home

There’s no harm in opening your windows slightly on a warm day. In fact, this will do a lot of good, as it will improve the air circulation and entice all of that moisture-filled air out of the house.
