It's critical to understand how desiccant dehumidifiers work before you buy one.

Desiccant Dehumidifiers - Read This Before You Buy

On first impressions, desiccant dehumidifiers seem very impressive as they can remove large amounts of water. Brands like Meaco have become extremely popular due to the Which? tests. These tests are not designed in a suitable way to test dehumidifiers.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are a waste of money in domestic applications, like in your home. They have very high running costs of around £110 a year, and they remove way more water than is required to stop condensation and damp in your home.

At Ebac, we do manufacture desiccant dehumidifiers. These dehumidifiers do work well in industrial settings or in garages or outbuildings but are not suitable for use in your home.

If looking for a dehumidifier for your home, we recommend that you use a compressor dehumidifier.

Your entire house generates excess moisture and, in most cases, the best solution is a compressor dehumidifier with an average extraction rate of around 18 litres. If you have a particularly small home, with just one person and lower capacity, dehumidifiers with an extraction rate of 12 to 15 litres will be sufficient

With more than enough extraction capacity to solve damp or condensation problems and lower running costs, these dehumidifiers use a compressor and a heat exchanger to remove moisture from the air. Compressor dehumidifiers remove water by producing a cold surface that the moisture condenses on.

A typical compressor dehumidifier removes up to 3 litres of water per day, however the average UK home only requires around 1 to 2 litres of water extraction per day. A compressor dehumidifier therefore provides the optimum level of water extraction at the lowest cost.

At Ebac, we have developed technology to save you even more money on the running costs of your dehumidifier – Smart Control.

Smart Control works as an automatic control system, unlike many other dehumidifiers that use a manual humidistat as their control system. Smart Control is fully automated as it regularly monitors the conditions within your home and adjusts the dehumidifier settings accordingly in order to provide the highest quality performance to keep your home protected from any problems with damp or condensation.

If you use Ebac’s patented Smart Control, your energy saving increases to 35% over dehumidifiers with a manual humidistat.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are not the answer for solving condensation problems in your home. You need to use a compressor dehumidifier with Smart Control to fix this. Head over to ebac.com to see our full range and keep your home safe.
